Creating a Safe Retreat
Sit in a comfortable position in your chair with your
back straight. Place your feet squarely on the floor.
Gently close your eyes and settle yourself.
Take a couple of deep breaths and sigh them out, letting
go of any tension you may be
holding.
Return to normal breathing, focusing on your inhalations
and exhalations for the next 6 breaths.
Now let yourself imagine somewhere that symbolizes
safety, peace and calm for you. This may be a place
you know or an imaginary one. It may be indoors or outdoors.
The important thing is that it is a space in which you
feel safe, secure and relaxed.
Notice every detail about this place. How does it look?
How does it feel? Is it warm or cool? Are you alone
or are you sharing the space with others? If so who
are they and what to they symbolize to you?
Look around again. Is there anything or anyone else
that you need to bring in to this space to make it feel
even safer and more secure? There may be an item or
someone special that you would like to be present. You
may even like to request the presence of a guide or
an angel.
Now you have created this space just how you want it,
allow yourself to enjoy being in it. You may choose
to sit or lie in the space. Really allow yourself to
feel how safe and secure this space is. Allow yourself
to become aware of anything that it blocking you from
feeling safe and intend to release it.
Allow yourself to stay in this space for at least the
next five minutes. If you drift off, just return your
focus once again to your safe space and how it looks
and feels.
------- 5 minutes or more ---------
Allow yourself to look around at your safe space once
again. Thank the space for creating a safe retreat for
you and know that you can return here at any time you
wish.
Now see yourself leaving your safe space. Becoming aware
of your body and your physical surroundings.
Gently move your hands and feet and start to stretch.
When you are ready you slowly open your eyes.
