Mantra Meditation
To begin, choose the mantra (word
of phrase that represents power and meaning to you)
that you are going to use for the meditation. In absence
of anything else, you may like to try using ‘OM’
(aum).
Adopt your favoured meditation position and settle
your breathing until it flows evenly in and out.
Take a deep breath and slowly let the air out
as you chant your chosen word or phrase. The
sound should be said as loudly and clearly as possible
to allow for the vibration of the mantra to create resonance
in your chest.
Repeat this for the next breath, establishing
a smooth flow and rhythm for the chant, until it becomes
almost hypnotic.
You may wish to chant for the whole meditation or once
the chant is established and your mind is still, you
may wish to continue meditation is silence and stillness.
When you have finished your meditation, bring your
awareness back to your body, noticing your hands and
feet, and then the room around you.
