Candle Meditation
Find somewhere comfortable where you will not be disturbed
and breathe normally.
Take a candle and light it. Focus on the candle, softening
your gaze so you are looking slightly beyond the fame.
Do this for a full minute. If any other thoughts come
into your awareness, image them floating off and return
your focus to the candle. By not letting your mind wander,
you are training it to think of what you are directing
it to think.
When you feel like you have retained the image of the
candle in your mind’s eye, close your eyes and
retain your focus on the flame. At first the afterglow
will fade and you will be left with nothing. When this
happens open your eyes again and repeat the process.
Eventually, the mental image will be retained for several
minutes. When you achieve this level of concentration,
let go and lose yourself in the flame. Become one with
the flame.
Stay with this for a long as you want and then, when
you are ready, slowly come back to normal consciousness
and open your eyes.
A trained mind creates emotional
calm and inner peace.
