A few weeks ago, I was fortunate enough to meet the founder of Thought Field Therapy (TFT), Dr Roger Callahan. He is a remarkable man, now 80 years old and still passionate about the effectiveness and increasing potential of this therapeutic method. I am also a strong advocate of this therapy, so I decided to make this a focus of this newsletter.

About Thought Field Therapy (TFT)

Thought Field Therapy (TFT) was developed over 20 years ago by Dr Roger Callahan, a very successful clinical psychologist in the US, who made it his life’s work to find ways to cure people of unfounded fears, phobias and anxieties that he himself had suffered since childhood.

He had been practicing psychology for nearly 40 years, but was frustrated by the length of time it took for his patients to make small shifts or progress. He’d see clients every week for months or years with very little movement. He started to explore non-standard psychology approaches to healing like Acupressure and Applied Kinesiology.

Shortly afterwards he was working with a client of his called Mary, who had a severe phobia of water. Mary’s phobia was so bad that she was unable to go near any bodies of water, she couldn’t go out in the rain and she could only bath in an inch of water. She suffered from constant nightmares about water and had lived with the fear all her life.

Dr Callahan had been working with Mary for 18 months using standard psychology methods (cognitive and behavioural therapy) as well as things like hypnotherapy, and he’s managed to get her to the stage where she could sit near a pool, but she was absolutely terrified in doing so.

At this time, Mary mentioned again having a nauseous feeling in her stomach. Dr Callahan decided to use some of his new knowledge of acupressure to try alleviating the physical feeling by getting her to tap under her eye (an acupressure point connected to the stomach meridian). Amazingly, after doing this, Mary lept up and ran to the edge of the pool, stating that her fear of the water had disappeared completely. Now, twenty five years later, she remains totally free of her phobia.

Dr Callahan knew he was onto something, but unfortunately the process wasn’t as simple for all his clients. However, over the next 20 years he developed a system of diagnosing how to treat phobias, trauma, anxiety, addictions, anger, obsessions, jealousy and other negative emotions that was highly effective.

Practitioners of all types (medical, psycho-therapists, naturopaths, acupuncturists and others) are now also using TFT with ever increasing effectiveness on physical problems, such as nausea, pain, fatigue and diseases affecting the electrical systems of the body.

TFT has undergone refinement and simplification over the last 25 years. Much scientific research has been conducted to measure the effectiveness of TFT and it has gained wide acceptance worldwide.

Fun and relaxation

 

Fun Meditation

The energy of this time of year resonates with playing and having fun. Unfortunately, those two things are not activities we allow ourselves very often, if at all. Yet, play and fun are extremely important qualities to incorporate in our lives and help us maintain balance and good health.

So, in fitting with the time of the year, I am giving you all permission to play and have some fun under the guise of meditation!

All you need to do is choose an activity that you would enjoy doing and set aside a specific time to do it. Note it in your diary and stick to it. This is just as important as all your other activities and Christmas shopping can always wait for an hour!

Start your 'fun' activity, but while you do it make sure you are fully present. No thinking about the hundreds of emails you have to read or what you have to do later that day. Just concentrate all your attention on the one activity. Notice every detail and how you feel while doing it. When you notice your focus has wandered, return it to the activity. Keep it up for at least half an hour.

This is a meditation you can practice endlessly!!

Sea Salt Bath to clear an aura

 

Stress Management Tips

An excellent way to cleanse your aura after a stressful day or when you have been mixing with a lot of people, is to have an Epsom Salt or Sea Salt bath. Make sure the water is warm and not too hot or it will throw you further out.

At this time of year, a swim in the ocean is a wonderful and easy alternative to cleanse your energy!

How does TFT work?

You may have noticed that when you think of a problem, you experience discomfort which may range from mild to severe.

Our thoughts are constantly creating patterns of electrical energy that cause the release of neurotransmitters , hormones and other chemicals in the body that we feel as emotions. It is a bit like tuning in to a radio station and getting the associated programing.

Dr Callahan found that whenever discomfort occurred, the Thought Field (the thought of the issue) had a energy disturbance (or "perturbation", as he calls it) associated with it. The procedure in a TFT treatment is to remove the disturbances, or perturbations, that cause the upset when thinking of the problem.

Thoughts relate to the energy field of the body and changing this energy field by tapping certain acupressure points in a particular sequence can release emotions rapidly and easily.

When the perturbations (disturbances) are eliminated there is a rapid and dramatic improvement in the way you feel. It becomes difficult to tune into the problematic thought or "radio station" that existed previously.

The majority of problems can be eliminated in a few minutes, a-lthough there may be some that are more complex that will take longer and require multiple sequences. A re-occurrence of the feelings after a treatment often indicates the presence of a toxin which can then be addressed, the effects cleared and then the original treatment reset.
