Spring is a time of renewal and fresh start,
so it is an ideal time to do a spring clean of your space,
whether it’s a single room or a whole house.
Just as rooms collect dust and mess and need to be cleaned
regularly, so do they accumulate energetic debris. Whatever
happens in a space leaves an imprint. Places can feel warm
or peaceful when you walk into them, or they can feel uncomfortable
or jarring. Most of us do not consciously think about the
feeling we get when we enter rooms or places, we just know
that we like going to some places and may resist going to
others.
It helps if we are aware of how places make us feel because
then we can do something about it when they get energetically
congested or “dirty”. I would suggest doing
space clearing on a regular basis anyway, but particularly
if you are in a space where there have been arguments, tension,
stress, trauma, illness, death or depression. You should
also space clear at times of change, when you move into
a new home (or office) and when you are feeling a bit 'stuck'
or depleted.
There are many ways you can clear spaces. I have recommended
the Australian Bush Flower Space Clearing spray
for this purpose in a previous
newsletter, but there are many other methods you can
use that are listed below.
Whatever method/s you choose, pay particular attention
to corners, alcoves and around furniture, as these are places
where energy tends to accumulate. Also be aware of areas
that don’t receive any fresh air flow. Notice the
difference in how the room feels before and after.
Clean & Declutter - Just cleaning
a room with intent and removing clutter
will help to change the energy of the space and leave you
feeling spring cleaned too! It's good to do this with any
of the other space clearing methods.
Smudging
– You can buy a smudge sticks from health food and
alternative life style stores. These are made of dried sage
leaves. When you light them, they will smoulder. Hold a
fireproof container under the stick to catch the ashes and
wave them through the space in figure 8's. It is good to
have a window open to let the 'negative' energy flow out.
Clearing Visualisation – Perform
the clearing visualisation detailed in the Meditation section
below is a wonderful way to clear a space and you can easily
do it at work or at home without anyone else being aware.
Great to do before important meetings!
Clapping – Clap with your hands
cupped slightly, so that you make a full and loud sound.
Move around the room clapping from the floor to the ceiling
a few times in each position.
Tibetan/Tingsha Bells – If you have
some Tibetan bells, clang them around the room allowing
the vibration of the sound to clear the energy and raise
the vibration of the room.
Chanting OM – Chanting OM for a
while in the space can help to clear the space. If you don't
feel like chanting yourself, buy a CD of it, but only play
it for about 30 mins at a tie as it is very potent.
Burning Oils or Incense – Sandalwood,
sage and juniper oils or incense are good space clearers.
Some people also like to burn citrus oils.
Amethyst – keeping pieces of amethyst
in the room will help absorb negative energy. Do remember
to clean them every now and then by leaving them to soak
overnight in a bowl of sea salt and spring water.
Beeswax candles - Burning candles that
are 100% beeswax regularly can help to maintain clear energy
in a room.
Intent - After you have cleared the space,
set an intent for what energy you want the space to hold.
For example, you may ask that only love, joy, peace and
harmony enter the walls.
